Oaklands
900 North Maney Ave.
Murfreesboro
(615) 893 - 0022
The oldest part of the house was built in 1815, and consisted of just two rooms.
The house was built by Dr. James Maney and his wife. The house was built on in stages as Dr. Maney's practice grew. Mrs. Maney
was Sally Hardy Murfree, daughter of Hardy Murfree whom Murfreesboro is named after. The Maney Family sold the House in 1882.
After a series of owners, by the 1950's the house was abondoned.
The City of Murfreesboro purchased the Mansion in April of 1959, and planned
on razing Oaklands. Luckily that plan was scrapped. The Mansion was restored to it's 1862 appearance. It opened to the Public
as a Museum in the early 1960's.
