The original fort was built in 1779 in an area originally known as "Cedar Bluffs".
Located on the Cumberland River, the fort was built to protect the settlers from
The Chickamauga Indians.

The settlement was named in honor of Brigadier General Francis Nash (1742 - 1777 ). An American Revolutionary hero, General Nash was killed in combat on October 4, 1777 and never had the opportunity to see the settlement named in his honor.

The present Fort is a scale
reproduction of the original
Fort,and was built in 1931

Nashborough was renamed
Nashville in 1796, and
became the permanent capitol
in 1843

Fort Nashborough
overlooks the
Cumberland River

Authentic in many ways,
there are fewer buildings
in a smaller area

Tennessee became the
16th State in 1796
