In December of 1808 Thomas Lincoln (Abe's Dad) paid $200 for 348 acres of stony land known as the Sinking Spring Farm. It was on this farm that Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12th, 1809. The Lincoln family lived here until 1811 when they moved to a farm on
Knob Creek. (See Boyhood Home)

   Souvenir Shop built in 1929

The Cabin measured 18ft. x 16ft., had a dirt floor, one window, one door, and a small fireplace. Rather humble beginnings for someone who  would become (what many consider to be) one of our Greatest Presidents.
President Teddy Roosevelt laid the cornerstone for
the Monument in 1909. President Howard Taft dedicated the Monument in 1911. Dedicated as a National Historic Site in 1959.
