In 1828 Judge Benjamin Piatt bought a large farm in
Logan County Ohio. It was in an area the Shawnee Indians
referred to as "Macochee" which translates as laughing or smiling valley.
In the 1870's his sons built these castles. Abram built
Mac-A-Cheek in 1871, and Donn built Mac-O-Chee in 1879.
The Castles are private, family owned museums. Both
castles were added to the National Register of Historic
Places in 1982. Both castles and their grounds can be
rented out for special occasions. The castles are 3/4 of
a mile apart. Mac-A-Cheek is 1 mile east of West Liberty.
West Liberty,OH. is in Logan County. It is 30 mins. east
of Sidney (on I-75) , and about an hour N.E. of Dayton.
