Built around 1813 by John H. Bowen, a Local Attorney and a member of Congress. Mr. Bowen died in 1822. William Trousdale bought the house in 1836.
William Trousdale served in 3 wars, the War of 1812, the Seminole War, and the Mexican - American War. He served in the Tennessee Senate, and in 1849 was elected Tennessee's 16th Governor. He served 1 term. After that he was named a Minister to Brazil.
