Built in 1870, the "Million Dollar Courthouse" is made of limestone. The Courthouse began as a $50,000 project that
was financed by taxes and bonds. When completed the
cost of the project had soared to $1.3 Million, and took
the County 40 years to pay off the debt of the Courthouse.
The Courthouse is one of the largest in the United States,
and considered the most magnificent Courthouse in the
State of Illinois.
