The Texaco Station was built in 1933 in the "House and
Canopy"  style, a style that was developed by Standard Oil
of Ohio in 1916. This was an operating gas station for 66
years, making it the oldest operating station on Route 66 .
Basil "Tubby" Ambler owned the station from 1938 until
1966. Mr. Ambler owned the station the longest.
Phil Becker Bought the station in 1970. In 1971 Texaco
stopped  supplying gas , and Mr. Becker contracted with
Marathon Oil to supply his station. Until it's closing in
1996, the station was known as Becker Marathon Gas
 Station.
Between 2005 and 2007 the station underwent a restoration.
The station now looks like it did in the 1940's. The station
reopened in May of 2007 and is now the Dwight Welcome
and Information Center.
Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
